Deborah Biber is a seasoned strategic marketing thinker and she enjoys a portfolio-style career with two key streams. The first is as Chief Executive of the Pacific Basin Economic Council (PBEC). Founded in 1967, it is the oldest, independent business association to link the economies of the Asia-Pacific Region. PBEC provides a meeting place for a diverse group of industries, services and professions that have made the Pacific Basin the world’s growth leader. The second is as a consultant to several key clients with services that include marketing – both analogue and digital as well as corporate coaching in support of business development.
Ms. Biber was previously the Chief Executive of the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and Macau. Prior to this she was a Board Director of this Chamber for five years and was on the Chamber’s Management Committee. She left the Chamber in a position of significantly increased esteem and influence, as well as the largest membership base in its then 25-year history. As part of her portfolio, Deborah was recently the Country Manager Hong Kong for the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM), a global top fifty MBA provider, part of the Australian School of Business at the University of New South Wales, Australia.
Deborah has enjoyed a diverse career in all aspects of marketing, public policy and public affairs in Australia, the United Kingdom and Europe as well as across Asia including Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan and China.
Before joining AustCham, Deborah was Chief Executive of leading integrated marketing consultancy Blue Moon for ten years. She expanded Blue Moon’s reach to include many event, sponsorship and marketing projects in Singapore, Shanghai and Beijing; and throughout the Asia Pacific region – for both mid-cap and leading global brands.
Prior to this, Deborah was the Regional Creative Director and Vice President of international public relations firm Hill & Knowlton Asia and in 1991was appointed its Global Account Director for the global launch of Asia’s first satellite television platform StarTV.
Deborah uses her marketing and sponsorship skills to benefit several cultural organisations including the Hong Kong Arts Festival and is also an Advisor to the Shanghai International Arts Festival’s Cartoon Carnival. She is a Board Member of Hong Kong based social enterprise Charitable Choice. Ms Biber is a marketing advisor to the China International Human Resources Association based in Guangzhou, China and Advisor to the recently formed Asian Sponsorship Association, based in Singapore, as well as the Entrepreneurs’ Club of Hong Kong.
John Barclay is Managing Director, Primasia Corporate Services Ltd
A qualified accountant (CPA, Deloitte) and barrister, John Barclay has held finance director-level positions with firms in his native UK, as well as in Africa, Hong Kong, Mainland China and elsewhere in Asia. He has high-level experience with cooperative joint ventures in the Mainland. Whilst working for British Petroleum, he carried out one of the first western audits in China. He has spent more than 20 years in Asia, mostly in Hong Kong and Mainland China. Before founding Primasia Corporate Services Ltd, he was the finance director for the largest regional corporate services group at that time.
John is a career finance professional, now assisting entrepreneurs, SMEs and listed companies with corporate set-up and administrative support in 60 jurisdictions with special emphasis on Hong Kong and China.
John has worked in several countries in Asia, including China, and also in Europe and Africa, and for a number of world-renowned multinationals, including Deloittes, BP and CBS, as well as for smaller companies.
John’s specialities are – On- and offshore company formation, accounting, company secretarial and PRC suppport.
James E. Thompson, GBS is the Chairman and Founder of the Crown Worldwide Group of Companies. Crown Worldwide is a logistics company performing various types of warehousing and transportation services throughout the world. The Crown Group is the largest privately owned company in the field of international removals with over 265 worldwide locations in almost 60 countries around the world. Crown is also a leader in the field of document management with 22.3 million cartons of business documents managed from its worldwide facilities. Mr. Thompson graduated from San Jose State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He came to Asia shortly after completion of his university studies and has lived in Japan and Hong Kong ever since. He is a member of the International Advisory Board of the San Jose State University Business School.
The Crown Worldwide Group employs over 5,200 full time staff around the world as well as a large number of contracted personnel. The company has been awarded the prestigious Hong Kong Award for Services in Export Marketing, and received the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce Innovative Services Award twice. Crown has also received the DHL/South China Morning Post International Award as Hong Kong’s best international company.
Mr. Thompson is currently a member of the Investment Promotion Ambassador Scheme and the Deputy Chairman of The Hong Kong Management Association. He also serves as a member of HKTDC HK-EU Business Cooperation Committee and a member of HK-Japan Business Cooperation Committee.
Mr. Thompson serves as Chairman or as a Board member of numerous charitable organizations. He was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star, Hong Kong’s second highest awards, by the Hong Kong Government in 2003
